A self portrait drawn digitally with an overlaying pattern for a more hallucinatory effect. It refects dissociation and depersonalisation leading to detachment with one’s own refection in the mirror. The facial expression in fact portrays frustration and confusion.

A contemporary general feeling is that the world is deteriorating, man-made structures and human intervention in gereal is engulfing the environment causing drastic climate changes and disease.

Hope is Where There’s You
School: G. F. Abela Junior College

“This piece is a personal self-portrait on how after suffering a mental illness, and losing all hope in recovering, conveys that there is light in the end of the tunnel. This piece shows how I found hope in the hands of affection, and how it brought me back up on my feet. It symbolises how one should never lose hope in life even though some roads may be tough, every cloud has a silver lining. The muted colours contrast that of the colourful hues, the broken feeling is displayed by showing hints of background colour on the emotionless face. A look or serendipity is given off by the figure that displays sign of hope and affection. “If you’re loved you’ll never be alone” – San Ġorġ Preca”

Through this artwork I wanted to make the viewer question my character. Why is he smiling? Why are his gloves red? Why is red the main colour? What did he do? You’ll never know the truth.
