M’Lop Tapang is a non-profit organisation that has been working with the street children of Sihanoukville, Cambodia since 2003. It works in the Sihanoukville area to provide street children access to the learning tools, resources, and opportunities they need to build a better future. It offers regular meals, shelter, medical care, sports and arts, education, training and protection from all types of abuse.
We partnered with M’Lop Tapang to give thousands of Cambodian children and youth the opportunity to try something new and to cultivate their own unique talents. Through programmes that include dance, music, acrobatic and circus acts, as well as painting and drawing classes, these children have the chance to express themselves creatively.
The Child Welfare Scheme (CWS) is a charity dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged children and their families through protection, education, and healthcare. Operating in Nepal, CWS tackles important issues using grassroots, low-cost, replicable, and sustainable solutions.
Previously, the centers lacked art supplies and facilitators trained to inspire children’s creativity through art. We supported CWS in providing these art supplies and trained facilitators who can teach art techniques to children in remote villages in Nepal. This initiative has greatly benefited their community.
The Christina Noble Children’s Foundation (CNCF) is an international partnership of people dedicated to helping underprivileged children and those at-risk of commercial or sexual exploitation. Its operational centres in Mongolia and Vietnam provide shelter to underprivileged, orphaned or abandoned children whilst ensuring all children in its care have direct access to a good education, a high standard of healthcare, and other social and employment opportunities. They also engage in sustainable development initiatives that directly benefit the families and wider communities of the children they support.
We supported the CNCF Vietnam Music & Art Education Programme, which gives children living in desperate poverty the chance to express themselves creatively and achieve their potential through interests outside of schooling such as art, dance, singing & drama.
HAGAR is a global organisation that runs both commercial and non-profit entities to fulfil its mission: to restore the lives of women and children in Afghanistan, Cambodia, and Vietnam who have faced extreme human rights abuses.The HAGAR Creative Arts Programme uses art therapy to offer enjoyable, recreational activities and a space where clients can simply be children, play, and discover their passions.
We supported this programme by sending Portugal based artist Tanya Benett from the SAF team to lead art workshops for child clients in Hagar Cambodia’s Creative Arts Programme, making a significant impact on the children’s ability to express themselves.
In 2014, The Sovereign Art Foundation supported the Colombo Biennale and the Mullegama Art Centre of Sri Lanka by sponsoring a series of Biennale art workshops. The workshops were run by Sri Lankan artist and Sovereign Asian Art Prize 2010 winner, Pala Pothupitiya, and six artists associated with the Mullegama Art Centre. The workshops, which were held over two consecutive weekends, attracted twenty-six participants including students from private International and government village schools, and an orphanage as well as the Mullegama Art Center, a total of 9 organizations.
The Royal Charity Organization was established by His Majesty King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa on 14 July 2001 to care for Bahraini orphans. Its missions include sponsoring widows and orphans, caring for the elderly and those with special needs, providing social, health, and educational support, and alleviating the cost of living for needy families. The organisation also aims to set up and develop social and charitable projects, such as orphanages, childcare and disability centres, facilities for the elderly, kindergartens, family rehabilitation programmes, and health rehabilitation centres, all contributing to sustainable long-term development.
We supported this programme through a fund that helped improve the lives of vulnerable families in Bahrain.
The Norval Foundation’s Learning Centre is dedicated to investing in South African youth through art education. In a rapidly evolving technological landscape, we believe that creativity is the most valuable skill one can possess. The Centre equips learners with practical tools to enhance their creative thinking, interpretation, and problem-solving abilities, fostering self-expression and the confidence that comes with it.
We maintain an ongoing partnership with the Norval Learning Centre and raise funds through the Norval Sovereign African Art Prize. Proceeds from the finalists’ artworks support this charity, helping to provide significant funding for the Norval Foundation’s Educational Programme.
In Estremoz, Portugal, Alessandra Bonder, who has a wealth of experience in practicing Art Therapy hosted a six-day programme for local, disadvantaged children aged 3 to 8. In partnership with Associação SAF, the Portuguese arm of The Sovereign Art Foundation, this initiative utilized the transformative power of the arts to enhance the children’s self-esteem and communication skills.
The programme included six sessions, each offering unique experiences and varying levels of direction. Participants engaged in collaborative projects, creating large-scale art pieces, hand painting, and enjoying games and role play to foster connections. Activities such as pottery and vase painting further enriched the children’s creative journeys and encouraged self-expression.
NECI offers various art workshops for teenagers and young adults with disabilities, both residents and non-residents. In 2020, we partnered with NECI through The Students Prize Portugal.
All 20 finalists’ artworks were sold to raise funds for NECI, and we are proud to have supported this worthy cause and given back to our community. A heartfelt thank you to all the teachers from participating schools and everyone who assisted with our exhibitions.
Mind Body & Soul (MBS) is a team of wellbeing professionals dedicated to enhancing community health. Their school programs equip children with innovative practices and self-care techniques to nurture their mind, body, and soul.
During The Gibraltar Students Prize 2023, we used some of the funds raised from the sale of the finalists’ artworks to support 350 children in Gibraltar on their journey of self-discovery and emotional growth through the MBS Wellbeing School Programme. This initiative also provided art supplies such as acrylics and water colours, as well as materials for yoga and mindfulness classes.
