How would you describe yourself in three words?
Curious, Imaginative and adventurous
Did your studies at HKUSPACE influence your interest in expressive arts therapy? If so, how?
I initially chose music therapy because I felt more familiar and confident with music compared to other art forms. Then, this course introduced me a profound understanding on how musical expression could bring significant impacts on individuals both mentally and physically regardless of their skills or experience. Art, in general, has the power to facilitate inner conversations, with music being a part of this.
After completing the course, I was inspired to further develop my interest in expressive arts therapy. I believe that Art therapy could be a broader approach for unveiling the hidden or unspoken layers within us, especially for those who struggle to articulate their emotions or wounds. Also, I, personally, became more open to exploring other forms of self-expression other than Music, such as art journaling.
How do you feel your experience at SAF has benefited you so far?
In addition to supporting the programme and therapists, SAF has provided diverse opportunities through various events, which broadened my understanding of the art and expressive art therapy fields. Moreover, gaining insight into the needs of individuals with SEN children and underprivileged families in our society was invaluable. Personally, these experiences have been incredibly helpful in navigating my future path.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I enjoy unwinding at my favourite cafe accompanied by a good book and my painting journal in my spare time. And occasionally, wandering the city and landscape through the lens of my film camera which sometimes provides me with fresh insights, allowing me to see the things from different angles and helps me to untangle my thoughts.
What do you wish more people knew about Art Therapy?
I wish people could experience the freedom and healing through Art therapy and enjoy it as a medium for inner conversations. Through Art, I believe its power brings peace, healing and helps you to overcome of fears of imperfection.
