Description
The main idea of this painting is the struggles of having to fit in with society’s expectations, even if you are perhaps against them, someway, somehow. The standards put in place ensure that everyone becomes the perfect “model citizens” of a utopia no one chooses to be born in. Sometimes going against these standards comes with consequences; thus people are afraid to stick out.
The symbolic elements representing the angel and devil are not intended to be associated with religious ideas or beliefs whatsoever, but more to showcase the mere basis idea of the good and bad. The mask made to deceive others is worn by the one whose pure intentions disagree with the majority; an angel lurking in a world overtaken by evil..
Our true feelings can be masked by an expression of the opposite. The heart is not the same as the mind; let that be a reminder that a person with a smile is not always happy. I hope one day no one would need a ‘mask’ to fit in and avoid discrimination
